Nope... It's not Darlie...

By the way...

Darlie toothpaste is everywhere. Did you know until 1985 that it was called DARKIE toothpaste? Then Colgate-Palmolive bought the Hawley & Hazel Company, the Hong Kong-based company that makes it. They didn't change the picure that much.

And they didn't change the name in China... It's called, 黑人, there which means "Black Man" (man with African heritage is the connotation).

Colgate still owns the product. The tubes sold here list a manufacturing plant in Vancouver, BC.

A family friend went to Asia for a holiday one year and brought back tubes of "Darkie" for everyone. The picture on the front was of a black minstrel with a toothy grin. It was kind of humorous at the time but a little sad just the same.

"Darkie" hasn't been made since 1985 (read the story above). Darlie is available all over Asia. It's made in China, Thailand, and a couple of other places (Canada?)

Note the metamorphosis of the name and the character in the picture above.

Note that it also went from just "Monofluoro Phosphate" to "Full Fluoride Protection". Europeans can't be trusted.

Kinda makes one wonder what their definition of the "tooth fairy" looks like ;)
