Bigger Avatars?????????

Post by Tuba-G Bass »

Okay,
I was curious as to how some folks Avatars have grown?

I thought the limit was 80 pixels?

If you use hosting, you can run bigger, yes?

Hmmmmm

Hi,

I sorta found the reason, I did do a search for "Avatar"
It turned up nothing, then I found the thread about
"bigger pictures" in the Feedback section.

Double Hmmmmmmm!

I'd be willing to bet that Sean's bandwidth requirements have skyrocketed since the adoption of the "new" BBS software.

Bandwidth actually went down due to the format of the new software

My guess is that, with fewer clicks needed to read all these posts, we're accessing the server less often.

How are the page views & numbers of posts compared to the old version?

Traffic is growing at about the same speed as before. The bandwidth went down mainly cause the BBS main page was usually 500k. The main page size is much less, but each individual post consumes more bandwidth due to fancy layout and the advertisements.

I have something like 400GB/month of allocated bandwidth at my current provider. TubeNet doesn't use nearly that.

I agree, though some are pretty revealing of the characters using them.

Bigger Avatars

Post by TubaRay »

Rick, I'll take your word as to the actual size of your tuba. From the size of the avatar, I wouldn't have guessed it was that big. I assume you are speaking of the Holton.

Would you mind if I asked who you use for hosting and what they charge?
I'm starting to push my monthly bandwidth (10GB) and I'm looking to upgrade or switch and would be curious to get an idea of how much 400/GB would set me back.

Thanks!

You shouldn't. I wear size 15 shoes and have a very small avatar.

But it's a picture of a Holton, so, as they say, size doesn't matter.

Rick,

Do I infer correctly from your posts that you have never seen "Tombstone"?

No. But I've been to Tombstone, AZ (the "town too tought to die'), and I didn't see Val Kilmer walking around.
