My wife saved an American Profile article for me (americanprofile.com) from their October 7th 2007 edition Entertainment section entitled "Titan of the Tuba" about Winston Morris and his Tennessee Tech Tuba Ensemble and other bands having "performed at Carnegie Hall seven times, having produced 22 commercial recordings and generated more than 600 compositions for the tuba, euphonium and tuba ensemble".
One of Morris' students was quoted saying, "If you don't know Mr. Morris and you play tuba, you're in the wrong business." I believe the kid may be right. Winston Morris appears to be taking us to a better place.
He considers "tuba still young and ripe for exploration."
Gotta love this.
Hi Eric B,
I went right to the article yesterday-using your url- but today someone must have taken it down. Thank you for your help.
Winston Morris is moving mountains in the tuba world. I am only pushing up little mounds of dirt but I am lucky to be able to use tuba in fresh new ways playing beach music venues that pay scale and comp my tab if I only eat a sandwich and keep it to two or three beers.
