I have been toying with the idea of getting a M.M.E degree for some time to complement my unused B.M.E., with the hopes of one day getting an actual interview with a reputable public school system. It seems that there aren't too many schools that actually offer this specific degree. Is there a centralized listing somewhere of all the schools in the US that offer an M.M.E.?

(Ironically, my alma mater does offer an M.M.E., but my wife would have limited job opportunities in that area.)

My wife just received her MME through Boston University's online degree program. It was quite demanding but it was a bonus to be able to do the work at our house in Cape Canaveral and not have to relocate.

My wife told me about that, but I have not looked into it too much - does it require that you are currently teaching or have real previous teaching experience?

My wife seems to think that you do have to be currently teaching but I can't find anything specific about that on their website. You may have better luck.

As soon as I started to apply for the program, this popped up
"Boston University School of Music requires all master's program applicants to be full-time music educators with a bachelor's degree in music or music education from an accredited college or university. Thank you for your interest."
Here is the problem: I have been trying for two years and can't get an interview, never mind a job, around here (Music City) without a master's degree. How do I get the master's then??

If you received your Bachelor's in Music Ed and already know the basics (conducting, teaching the various instruments, completed student teaching, etc...) why not go after a Master's in Education. I would believe that would fulfill the "Master's Requirement" and be a more common area that many universities would offer.

You mentioned in another thread something about the possibility of moving to Las Vegas, Nevada... Here is a link that tells something about the Master of Music program at UNLV. It is an M.M.E.

And, in that thread I mentioned something about ANOTHER Las Vegas... Las Vegas, New Mexico, is a college town... It's the home of New Mexico Highlands University... Unfortunately, they don't have any graduate music programs...
