So I have already asked about marches and such, so I figured I would ask about chamber pieces today! So what are your favorites? I only have two, and they both happen to be composed by Strauss.

Serenade for Winds

and

Vienna Philharmonic Fanfare

The D.C. Navy band has a WONDERFUL recording of the latter! I have to say, I love all of the band lit. and such that has become available on iTunes. :D

Here's a list:

"Black Angels" by George Crumb
Angels of the Inmost Heavens" by Lucia Dlugoszewski
most of the motets by Carlo Gesualdo, especially the Tenebrae Responses
I can't resist a good recording of "Pierrot lunaire"
"Five Movements for string quartet, op. 5" by Anton Webern
Mikrophonie I & II, both by Karlheinz Stockhausen
All three Constructions for percussion by John Cage
"Oiseaux exotiques" by Olivier Messiaen
"Quatuor pour la fin du temps" by Messiaen
Most of all, "Rothko Chapel" by Morton Feldman
