Ha! surprised to hear they're still around. They were in at the beginning of the local coffee boom and did well at it, eventually had quite a number of shops in the area. Now owned by Starbucks, who does the roasting etc. and the shops are gone. The roasting operation they had at their peak is still in operation, though, owned and operated by the original roaster but aimed purely at the upper end of the market, good stuff no doubt but priced over $12 /lb. That isn't necessarily a lot of money, since you can make an awful lot of coffee with one pound of beans, but if you're that serious about good quality, you'd be better off dealing with any local roaster you can trust to deliver reasonable quality stuff that was roasted within a day or two of purchase.

When in Maine each summer I load up on MOXIE. (Orange and blue lable) I lust for it the remainder of the year. It's sort of a cola with gentian root flavor.
Now, here in Minnesota, I can buy it off the novelty soda endcap in the local Ace Hardware store. Only 3 bucks for a mini-bottle. there is a certain snob effect. but when ya gotta have that taste, it's cheaper than flying to Portland.
Reading these posts made me go out and get a bottle when I was getting my Ultra Pure lamp oil.

I didn't realize Moxie was still available - I haven't seen it since I was a teenager - - - 8) 8) 8) (I believe it was originally from up in New England). I wish I knew where I could get some now......

I find plain water extremely boring. The only time I drink it is when I'm working out in the yard in the heat of the summer (I'm not sure how deep my well is, but I suspect it's at least 150 ft. deep, its practically ice cold year round, and on a hot summer day, it's absolutely unbeatable).

Other times, I mix it with (sugar-free, and aspartame-free) Mio - I'll go through, easily, a half-gallon of the mixture each day (in point of fact, I'm drinking it right now, orange-tangerine......)

My wife will say things like "let's split a beer."

To her, that means 1 beer, with 2 glasses.
To me, it means 2 beers, and I drink half of hers.

one teaspoon baking soda in a cup of water a half hour before meals to raise pH. It's helping quite a bit. Our diet is typically very acidic and bugs like acid. Tastes awful.

Actually it cures practically everything, according to certain quacks. But if it affects internal pH, like in the bloodstream, something is seriously wrong.

Quickie margarita - finished off a bottle of Espolón tequila, glug of cheap triple sec, a little organic lime concentrate. Tastes better than it sounds, mainly thanks to the Espolón (which is not terribly expensive either.) I understand that moderate drinking is back in favor in medical research this week, so for the moment it's looking good for me.

Lucky for us, when it comes to booze at least, the science is NOT settled.

A consensus has NOT been reached!!
