College Roomates
Can/Could you stand your college roommate when you had no choice of picking them?
Mine plays computer games until 4am every day. I have never seen him outside the room or with any friends. He's a cool guy but geez get off the computer and get out.

My roommate was random assigned to me on the first floor of what I thought was going to be a nice dorm to live in. Of course, this was completely false thinking on my part. Now, he's not a bad person, per se. But, he is very incompatible with someone like me. Here's a checklist of the things that just don't work out:
1) I'm a music ed major, and as such, am doing something from 7-8 AM to roughly 11-12 at night. He is an undeclared major, who wants to major in Spanish. Because of that, he is only taking 4 classes this semester, (compared to my 9 classes along with work and practice.) Therefore, he usually sleeps in until noon, and is awake till 3-4 in the morning, (almost always watching TV and playing video games while I'm trying to go to sleep after a full day of activity.) His records so far have been staying asleep until 5:30 PM and being up until 6:45 AM, (when I was waking up to go to my 8:00 class.) I hope he is wanting to work night shifts the rest of his life...
2) It may just be me, but if I'm going to play music loudly, I would ask the person who has to live in the same small dorm room if it is okay if I do so, (something I never do, anyways; headphones were invented for a reason.) Well, he doesn't, so at any time of the day, I can expect loudly played Guitar Hero and other video games, or really loudly played music, (a music collection which must be tailor-made to make me want to shoot myself.) I get enough headaches as it is. This is a problem on my entire floor. My entire floor is populated with complete and utter idiots, most of whom will probably drop out at some point. Case in point, my floor is in the lowest position for Fall '07 average GPA for the entire dorm, (2.58 on a 4 point scale.) I heard the guy across the way from me brag about how he got a 1.7 GPA last semester...Anyways, two of the idiots down the hall used some of the overdraft money on their parent's college loans to buy couple-hundred dollar subwoofers, which they like to blast at any available moment. To top it off, they don't know how to properly calibrate them, so I get to hear, from all the way down the hall, very dull and loud bass tones with about a quarter of the sound being the "music", (again, a playlist designed to make me throw up bile.)
I can't really think of anything more, just little things that really badly annoy me. Every day, I'm glad I have a room in the single room assignment dorm across the quad from me, (and, like my current dorm, close to both the PAC and the Music building.)

Good luck on a random draw as a freshman, had the room mostly to myself. Ever after, lived off campus, choosing roommates. Worst time was when they all took mushrooms on Halloween, wanted to wash the cat, hide in my tuba, and I had to babysit.

My most interesting roomie was a full blood Cherokee Indian whose mental powers were beyond ridiculous. He graduated in business with honors and hardly ever went to class or studied. He would get in at 5:00 in the morning from a card game and cram for an hour and go in and ace a test. Did I mention he was a professional poker player who put himself through school with poker winnings from illegal high stakes games. Drove a new Chrysler convertible and always had the prettiest girls in school as passengers. He could deal seconds with you watching and knowing he was doing it and you couldn't catch him. He could deal himself a winner 75%of the time in five hands of straight poker. He was an unbelievable card counter in blackjack. The last time I saw him he looked like hell, couldn't carry on a conversation for looking over his shoulder and made me promise that I had never seen him. Then he drove off. I never heard from or about him again. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

I go to UNI, and I have no clue. Something tells me he was bitten by the college partying bug, (because, as everyone knows, you have to be an excessive partier in college.) From what I heard, having a below 2.0 GPA for two semesters in a row at this school gets you on the probation list, and one more semester that low equals a ticket out of school.PWtuba wrote:Where do you go to school, and how did he get in???tubafatness wrote: I heard the guy across the way from me brag about how he got a 1.7 GPA last semester.

In Marine Corps boot camp they assigned me to the bunk bed below the only black guy in the platoon because I was from Alabama. I guess somebody thought that was funny back in the 60's.
Joe was a straight up guy and a fine Marine. We got on well.
One day on a long hike, I tripped and fell and sprained my ankle. You just don't fall out of a march in the Marine Corps - it is not an option. Joe snatched me up with my pack and rifle and carried me the last two miles back to our barracks. I bought him many beers for that.

Freshman year, 1st semester - Todd. Which meant I also had his girlfriend as a roommate. Kinda like living in an adult film. mildly amusing at first. Then really annoying.
Freshman year, 2st semester - New roommate and his drug habit. I walked in on him and his friends cutting up cocaine. I turned around, walked out, and never saw him again.
Sophomore year - Scott. Still friends to this day. He probably has a lot more complaints about me than I do about him.

I went to jr. college my first year. Then I moved to Austin & had 3 roommates, 2 snakes, & 1 dog in an apt. I worked 3rd shift & had evening classes so I was home with the snakes & dog during the day. The next year, I moved into my girlfriend's apt. Overall, I was probably as bad a roommate as anyone, so I didn't gripe too much. Besides, I lived by Dean Wormer's statement, "Fat, drunk, & stupid is no way to go through life, son"...and that was way before Animal House came out. I survived & lived to tell about it.

My first roommate was on the 8 year plan. Seriously. His parents were stinking rich so they BOUGHT him a condo in which he lived during every spring semester so he could "get his head together" and do nothing but ski and party.
During my first semester I woke up and he was in the top bunk, directly over my head, having LOUD sex with some gal I'd never seen. The following night I woke up and he was being assaulted by a football/jock/frat guy, presumably the aforementioned gal's beau, who had forced himself in our room and gone about the business of hammering my roommate to a pulp.
******
Fast forward to a few years later. I'm living with three guys in a rented house and I come home after practicing on a Sunday evening to find the whole house torn apart and everything being sprayed HEAVILY with Lysol.
Never a good sign.
One of my roommates informed me that he had been to a doctor and he had frickin' CRAB LICE. Apparently my roomie was under the impression that Lysol would kill off all the buggers in the house. He concluded this conversation by handing my a bottle of anti-crab crotch shampoo (I REALLY wish I were making this up), because his doctor suggested that all of us house mates use it. 'Til the day I die, I'll never forget the smell of that stuff.

Freshman year the roommate I was assigned thought it would be a good idea to apply Icy Hot to his testicles I spent the next hour listening to him roll around on the dorm floor in agony.
============================================
One of my housemates junior year was caught in the act of taking a dump (far less than a solid one mind you) in a plastic grocery bag on the kitchen floor because another roommate was taking a shower.
============================================
Same housemate has a huge obsession with dorn and was caught in the act of "taking care of himself" mulitple times, using someone else's t-shirt to clean up with.
============================================
I could go on and on about that guy, but I don't want to get into even grosser details.
