I've been listening to Sly and the Family Stone, Graham Central Station, and anything Bootsy has been on for some of the older stuff.

Check out some Parliament, Victor Wooten, and Marcus Miller, too. Miller's new CD wasn't really much funk, but it was funky.

Phish is one of my favorites.

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones
are phenomenal; Vic Wooten is the bassist. I've also always enjoyed Yonder Mountain String Band, which is probably more "jamgrass" than anything. Dr. Dan is always fun to listen to for some funk.

If you've not checked out Pandora.com, an online "radio" station, I highly recommend it. You can "seed" a radio station (or three or four or five...) with several different bands/genres. The server searches for other music that is similar to the seeds and adds them into the mix. You can further refine your station by voting "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" on all tunes played. A great way to be exposed to new music.
