personally, I don't understand the craze about huge stereo systems in the least pleasant acoustical environment. It sounds like crap, so make it louder to cover up the lousy sound?

I don't want to hear your stinkin' stereo. I want YOU to hear my car horn when I honk it to warn you that you're drifting over into my lane.

When the stereo in my car packs it in, it's tradin' time.
I have enjoyed stock equipment in some GM cars.

You can't go wrong with JL Audio gear. I have a JL Audio sub in my Honda Civic in a small sealed cube. Ducted boxes can be a bit trickier, and not so tight on sound. Great if you want to be heard coming from 10 blocks off, but not so great if you're looking for tight, clean bass. I power it with a JL Audio monoblock amp. You'd prolly need a head unit with a sub out, otherwise you'd also be looking at some type of crossover setup.

Their sub lineup has changed a bit since I bought mine, so I'd recommend finding a good shop in your area that can help match the sub to your car's interior. I get more bass than I can handle out of my 10", so don't think you need something monstrous to sound good. Mine sits in the trunk with the driver firing towards the back of the car. With the sound reflecting off the back wall of the trunk and coming forward, this will give you a little extra distance for some of the lower frequencies to "bloom".

I have JL Audio in my HHR- LOVE IT
i can make it loud but i love it because it is very clear and very clean sounds like the group is in my HHR.
the HHR w the wagon body style makes for great listening area

2 4 inch box pc fans in the compartment are run off the P leads in the rear compartment to cool the amps all the time and run whenever they are on. bought them at radio shack

• Pioneer DEH 7800MP
• XM receiver and antenna
• JL Audio XR650 CSI’s for back seat area speakers
• JL Audio XR650 CSI’s for front seat area speakers
• 12W3V2- 12” sub for rear compartment
• 3- JL Audio 300/2’s amps- 1 am to drive each set of XR650s and sub
• Small enclosed 12" sub box for travel

i put the small tweeters on the pillars in front and on the door sills in the back seats.
just swapped out the doors. ran all new wiring.

never did a whole job like this before and it took me a while, around 40 hours but i took my time and made sure it was right.
