Re: How much time do you spend on Tubenet?
About 15 min. in the morning, 30 min. at night. If there is something from the morning worth posting about, I'll think about it and post in the evening.
If I have a question, I'll search the archives one day and then wait a few days to see if my answer comes up in other postings and then ask my question.

I often leave a screen "up" logged in to TubeNet at work...I'll check the board when things slow down in the store. Same at home in the evening, which is why you see my username logged in so often...most of the time, I'm not really "online" at the site.
Total time on the site a day...maybe an hour.

I have a rotation of about 4 or 5 websites that I'll check on my computer downtime, with TubeNet being the first one. I'll check all the new stuff on each website, then start over again, with new material usually being up by the time the rotation is done. Time on TubeNet is varied with anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour.

Re: How much time do you spend on Tubenet?
Anything up to half dozen times totaling say one hour per day, depending on what I am doing otherwise and if there are any current subjects which interest me.
I don't know if it is just my perception, but there seems to be a lot less of interest than when I first joined and my visiting and posting on TubeNet is consequently rapidly decreasing. Some days I now only take one 30 second glance at the subject headings

Re: How much time do you spend on Tubenet?
Since it is summer, and I'm working at the bank and not teaching, I drop in at various times throughout the day, totaling I would guess an hour or so. During the school year, I don't have much computer access during the day (plus I'm much busier with work stuff), so I don't check in much. At home, I'll spend maybe 5 minutes on here total, unless there's a thread that really catches my interest.

Re: How much time do you spend on Tubenet?
I'm kinda like Jackson. I have three websites that I visit--Tubenet and Dave Werden's Tuba Euph site, and Pashnit motorcycle site. Usually, Tubenet and Pashnit daily, Dave's site about three times a week. Less than an hour a day per site. I have zero comptuer access at work (simpler that way) and often will get on line after work and before bed, working an overnight shift, or before work when I'm on days.
In the past, I've been a sports junkie--this year, the All Star game passed by with zero notice from me, but there's been a lot of manditory OT this summer, with a tuba to play and a motorcycle to ride, so electronics get a bit of a short shift.

Re: How much time do you spend on Tubenet?
If you really want to know exactly how much time you spend on here just ask the owner. This forum keeps track of statistical information including how much time each member spends here . I think most people would be really surprised at how many hours, days and weeks out of a year they spend on the Tube Net . Sean once told me how time I had spent and it was definatly an eye opener.
Just for anyone who may be interested ; there used to be a little, obscure icon on the lower left corner of the index page. If you clicked on it you could see some of that satistical information. The most interesting part was the world map the showed where members were located . The last time I looked at it ( way over a year ago ) there was a high concentration of members from the Texas area. It was also the highest concentration. There wasn't any personal or specific statistics or data available. It was all general stuff. I am sure all that was kept private.
I hadn't thought to go look at that stuff for a long time and when I did think about it the forum had been updated to it's current form and the icon is now gone. I think it may have been removed long before the update though. I would like to see it restored as it was interesting to see.

Somewhere between "not enough" and "too much."
I work from home as well, so I'm on all the time...except on the weekends...when there is a $1,500 Miraphone on ebay that I missed.

Except that such information only tells you how much time you are logged on to the site, not necessarily "spending time" here. As I explained in my post in this thread, I often leave a browser window open and logged on to the site, especially at work. When things slow down, I check the board for new posts. Does that mean I spent 9 hours on the site because I had a window up, logged in, the whole time I was at work? Of course not. Do other people do this, or am I the only one?oldbandnerd wrote:If you really want to know exactly how much time you spend on here just ask the owner. Re: How much time do you spend on Tubenet?
You are corrct that it only records the lenght of time you have the page open and not the actuall amount of time you actually spend looking at that page. I should have put that disclaimer in my original response.
Sean also told me that there were some members with large numbers of hours recorded . Some at that time were regular posters and he suspected that they just kept a page open all the time or for many hours a day with out actually being on the site. The numbers were just too large for anyone to be on one website for so long.
I assumed most people are like me and only log in when they want to post. I personally spend maybe 30 minutes or less a day here and rarely ever log in unless I am posting. So my time each never gets recorded except as a "guest" . I wonder how many people don't log in each time they visit .

Probably lots. But I suspect that's why you asked the question in the first place...curiosity.oldbandnerd wrote:I wonder how many people don't log in each time they visit .
Hopefully, lots of people will post on this thread, and we'll all gain some understanding of how people use the site.

What is the purpose of being hidden? (not a sarcastic question....I don't know what the purpose would be. bots?)
My time varies depending on what I'm doing at work. When I'm doing computer stuff that I have to sit here for, but the computer does the work with only babysitting every couple of minutes, I find time to read posts and make the occasional post. Also on my lunch hour I can visit. Then I'll go for days at a time when I'm not doing this kind of work and don't visit.

Another possibility: Make another login and keep it secret who you are. You know, something like "the mouse". Nobody will ever know.I used to not be hidden. Then I started getting PMs as soon as I logged on.

Re: How much time do you spend on Tubenet?
I see the problem, Wade. You are very knowledgeable and regularly provide both helpful and interesting information in your regular posts. This results in people wanting to pick your brain. If you were to simply do what I do, no one would ask you anything. Problem solved! I have little, if anything substantive to contribute. No need to be hidden. Hey! I've actually done something constructive on TubeNet. Wow!the elephant wrote: I used to not be hidden. Then I started getting PMs as soon as I logged on. I would have no PMs. I would read for like five minutes and after the index page reloaded I would have three of them, all from different people who would say "HEY! I see you're online. I'm online, too. Let's chat!" Since I do not ever brush anyone off when they want to ask me something and I frequently pop in and out while working at home (as I said earlier) I would have to take up all of my time for reading or posting stuff with pseudo "Instant Messaging" three guys via the PM system, and it was always was about the same four or five things. So I put an end to it by making the fact that I am here non-public.
