Does anyone know if the 'American Symphony' from Mr Holland's Opus is printed for performance? I have never heard the piece (I'm deaf), but I play tuba (adequately) in a concert band/wind ensemble. I tried to use Ask.com and Google, but was unable to come up with anything in print, just reviews and CD's. Thank you for any assistance.

I have no idea of publication status, but IMO, it's not worth worrying about it! Honestly, to wait all those years for THAT crappy piece??

The concert band I play in played Mr. Holland American Symphony last spring. It is definitely in print. I don't remember the publisher.
The tuba part is nothing to write home about. In fact we brought in an electric bass to play. Much of the part is a single note, rhythmic, loud part.

Thank you for your opinions. I will have to get a reduced score and show it to our ensemble director. EH!?

I have played An American Symphony with orchestra. Michael Kamen was the composer.

I am actually scheduled to play that piece at a 9/11 tribute next month. I will get back with more details once I have the part in hand.

Your director probably has an idea of the music. This movie was quite popular on the school band/scene. It is grade 3 music which should be playable by a lot of groups. It is also possible that your director has access to the score and music parts. The group just needs some solid horns and trumpets.
