I had a typical band nerd summer. Went to band camp at university of illinois (urbana-Champaign) and attended their annual band camp (ISYM). I met Professor Mark Moore (That was fun). I played in the local american legion band, and the local concert band. Most recently I joined the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, their brass choir, and now they want me in a chamber group to  . I also went up to Minnesota and spent a week on a lake boating and fishing. It was all-in-all a great summer, I sure do know how to fill up a schedule (especially now that school just started).

I worked at the crappy bank job I thought I left behind for good when I got my teaching gig. But, of course, you gotta pay the bills in the summer, too. The end of the summer is a blessing for me (tomorrow is my last day at the bank, woohoo!).

Next summer though, I will be getting summer pay from the school, so maybe I'll actually do something enriching. Or, at least entertaining

Some highlights were:

Tubaing

Friends and I spent 48 hours straight in a local Denny's

Friends and I made a movie: Doug to The Future

Friends and I had our own Soap Box Derby

I did a cross country camp through my school and quit cross country the second day of the "season".

Went to an adult band camp at Ashland University. What a hoot!

Survived a three night... six hours a night Volksfest gig at Germania Mannerchor.

Had the usual run of repairs to get ready for marching band season.

Got three months older.

Received my first Social Security check. Yippee!

Played in the marching band (several parades and baseball games), went on two multi day, 1500K mile motorcycle trips (with a third one planned, but it won't be "summer" since it is the week after school starts), started a new job assignment, went camping (once), let the lawn go brown from lack of water, kept the flowers blooming with the judicious application of water and flower food, grilled just about every night, sampled a lot of microbrew.

I'm basically not allowed to leave in summer, because if something really serious goes wrong with the transmission system (generally from forest firest up north of here) I am unfortunately "the" one who has to cover some bases.

So...quintet; work; stay out of the sun; watch TV; see a few movies. Glad it's coming to an end.

20 concerts. Still got 3 to go since September is still considered part of the "summer concert season".

Then it's off to my home town in Illinois for my High School 50 year Class Reunion.

Last night my son and I played tubas together and sent off a friend who had started playing in the band in 1987, the year my son was born.

Buggy summer night, with the sun going down obscenely early, we played him (OK, he plays flute, but we like him anyway) off the bandstand... speeding up the last march (in the grand fashion) until the trumpets panted for mercy.

I traveled (saw most of the southern half of the country this summer) but that view from the back row, with friends and near-terminal silliness, is what will stick.

Moved from Michigan to Australia at the beginning of June... where did summer go? I know it was here somewhere!
What part of Australia? (I'm in Melbourne).

One of my students asked me the same thing.
I told him I live in the real world, where we don't get summer vacations.

We took our grandson, Casey on a skatepark tour. Object was to visit a different skate board park every day for a week. We loaded up my son's motorhome and pulled a four by eight trailer behind it loaded with a portable generator (the motorhome generator was kaput) , three bicycles and my motorcycle.
We caught the Tony Hawk show in Birmingham. Casey was thrilled. I was thrilled to ride my motorcycle in the mountains for the first time.
Casey skated at parks in Montgomery, Alabaster and Dothan in Alabama and at Talahassee, Milton and Pensacola in Florida. 8)
We pronounce it Guf Coast

The first day on my summer vacation, I woke up. Then, I went downtown..to look for a job. Then I hung out in front of the drugstore.

The second day on my summer vacation, I woke up. Then, I went downtown...to look for a job. Then I hung out in front of the drugstore.

The third day on my summer vacation, I woke up...

Now that`s fine, young man!

...Then, I went downtown...to look for a job...

Now that`s fine, young man!

...Then, I got a job...keeping people from hanging out in front of the drugstore.

Young man? Young man? Young man!?

SHUT UP!!!!!

Thank you.

Hi charlittle

I've sent a reply to your PM but it's still in the outbox - I don't know what do to make it go properly and move to the sent messages folder.

I had the same thing on a different forum - the messages seemed to go by themselves after varying intervals.

If I'm not mistaken, you will discover the messages move from the Outbox to the Sent box when the person opens your message. At least, I believe this is how it works.
