Magnum PI

Post by Mark »

If you are old enough to remember the television show Magnum PI or if you have watched it in reruns, I have a question for you.

What was the one characteristic of Thomas Magnum that really irritated you?

I think there is a lesson here for some members of TubeNet -- if you answer as I would.

(It scares me sometime when my posts, at least to me, start to sound like bloke might have authored them.

Magnum was a mooch.
A guy his age and ability should at least have his own ride.
Did Magnum have his own digs ? I disremember. He should have had. :P

He knew where York #3 was, but wouldn't even tell the guy who provided his digs and his ride, Robin Masters :P

I think the choice "Pi" for a last name was very contrived. Most disappointing.

Well, he was a mooch; but the thing that bothered me the most was his constant whining about his circumstances. He had it pretty good, but never seemed to realize it.

The best episode, by far, was the one where he shot the Russian agent in cold blood.

What bothered me the most was the implied insult to James Garner, who had already shown us how to play the simple-guy-who-lives-on-the-beach-private-eye role.

I do recall one or two episodes of The Rockford Files where Tom Selleck played a hot-shot PI who always came out of his screw-ups smelling like a rose, with Garner usually the one responsible for the success and receiving no thanks for it. Near as I can tell, that was the prototype for Magnum, and Selleck seemed incapable of any other role.

That never would have happen if you had not taken away her chewing tobacco. That'll learn you.

I just could never relate to a homeless guy whose name was a large wine bottle or a handgun caliber.

Back in the day, my wife made me circle Ono Island by boat while she manned the binoculars because she heard Tom Selleck had a house there.
I didn't mind. She let me eyeball the topless chicks when we sailed the Carribean.

I guess you didn't watch the final episode. Higgins was Robin Masters.
