REAL Cranberry Sauce

Post by OldsRecording »

You need:
1 bag fresh cranberries
1/2 onion (small diced)
2 granny smith apples (small diced)
1 small jalapeno pepper (minced)
2 tbsp fresh ginger (grated)
2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup orange juice
salt, pepper, butter

In a large skillet, sautee the onions and jalapeno with butter. Add apples and ginger. When onions are translucent and apples are soft(ish), add cranberries. When everything is thouroughly coated and heated, add the water, the orange juice, the sugar, a little salt and a little pepper. Let cook until the cranberries burst and it becomes gelatinous. Let cool (overnight in the fridge always works).

Trust me, you won't want to go back to the stuff in the can. We always have to remind the kids that it's a condiment, not a side dish.

All mushrooms are edible, some are edible only once.

I have to try this.

Question  Do you remove the seeds from the jalapeno, or leave 'em in?

The jalapenos are strictly optional. If you don't like them, don't use them. BTW, I usually don't use the seeds.

Thanks for the clarification.

Saves needing to eat large quantities of ice cream immediately afterward to lessen the inevitable fire the next morning! :D (A pre-emptive strike, of sorts...)
