I recently got one of these as a birthday present. It was a neat gesture. My mother often gives me stuff like this too.



So I went looking on ebay for other stuff like that. Anyone collect little tuba figurine stuff? (and no, I'm not trying to sell any of the stuff that's been given to me)


And I keep wondering why these are soooooooo expensive:

I wouldn't say that I collect them, but I have been given a number over the years, including a couple of Goofys playing sousaphone, a "big bad wolf" with a tuba, a Goebel pig playing a tuba, and ceramic rabbit with a helicon. My daughter even made me a tuba playing elephant from sculpy, when she was younger.

I have a friend that is part of the hummel family... the reason these are so expensive is they are all hand made and are high quality. like comparing a mw2000 to a 2165. cool figurines though. i was given one when i was about 12.

Haha i have that little smurf too. I bought it in Europe (i think it was in Germany) for like 3-5 Euros or somewhere in there.

I just saw this on 'the auction'. I have some cute little figurines but if I bought all the stuff I see.. I would have to get rid of some tubas to make some space!

Winston Morris (Tenn Tech) has probably several thousand tuba figurines. What was once a display case full now overflows the basement floor of his home. He has them all labelled and cataloged as to where and when he got them. Quite an impressive display. I have a couple hundred figurines but I also have general band instruments mixed in.

Ok, this is NOT intended as a criticism but golly gee gosh I just can't figure out why people collect stuff like this.

Like, what is it for? What do you DO with it?

I throw stuff out as soon as it isn't of any use to me any more; or sell it. I can't imagine collecting anything.

Anybody? Maybe it has to do with my early adulthood when I was married to a guy who wanted to always be able to get all his possessions in the car so he could move on a moment's notice.

It's just too look at mostly. You don't do anything with it. My wife has many dolls, and none will ever be "played" with.

Ask any collector of anything. Some of the stuff migh be worth more than intial cost at a late date, but not much, and nbot anything commonly expected to appreciate.

Is anything above milk crates and planking of any real "use"? Why have nice furniture, or carpet, or china, or two suits of clothing? We surround ourselves with things that reflect who we are (and perhaps who we would like to become) and make our spaces truly ours.
