incredible birthday present

Post by ken k »

So i celebrated my first 49th today and I get a card in the mail from my father-in-law, who is giving up riding and what do i get for my birthday? His 1990 goldwing. I can't believe it!

Its got training wheels on it... It is an inexpensive trike conversion. basically outriggers mounted to the frame with heavy rubbe bands.. The bike still has its drive wheel on it. so it really is like huge training wheels. It is mounted with rubber bushings so it gives a bit. A very strange riding feel. I got to ride it once last thanksgiving 2007 and it is completely opposite the usual riding techinique. You have to streer the front end and it leans out rather than in. May take them off eventually, but I figure i will keep them on for awhile at least until I get used to controls of the bike,

Anyone have any goldwing experience?

Check your state licensing requirements if you haven't already, you may need a special 3-wheel endorsement. Not an unreasonable requirement, since as you noticed it's not the same as a motorcycle or automobile.

You bet it's a different riding experience! So is riding a TRUE three-wheeler. In high school (a long, long time ago) a friend of mine has one of those old Harley trikes like the meter-readers used. We 'bout killed ourselves on it several times!

I gave up motorcycles in 1983. Had too many close calls and figured my time was about up.

well i rode the bike home to PA from NJ Sunday evening. Only had two heart stopping moments, but lived to tell about it. So i plan on selling the trike kit and ride it like a two-wheeled bike eventually. It has been raining all week so i have not had a chance to ride it yet. perhaps to work tomorrow or maybe I will have to wait til Saturday, supposed to be nice here.
