Interesting article, but in short, no. :D I think the one variable the article leaves out is the fact that Germany in the 20's was immersed in sheer poverty after the Treaty of Versailles and the sham that was the Weimar Republic. The German military structure was essentially eviscerated, and the people were getting sick and tired of having to carry around Deuchmarks by the wheelbarrow-load. Hitler's National Socialist Party seemingly offered a frazzled, starving, humiliated people an opportunity to get their national pride back and seek revenge against the countries that put them there. So, my theory is that Americans would never become 'Nazis' in large numbers simply because we're far too fat and happy (the crappy economy notwithstanding).

That is true, and I agree for the most part. However, who is to say that we wouldn't see the current economy as similar to post-Versailles Germany and Obama as the new leader to take us to the next level.
Of course, I am NOT comparing Obama to Hitler, it just seems like it could be a bit of a parallel, at least on an economic level.

Not even close. Gas and bread are still sub $2/, and as much as I like Obama, there are limits. Just imagine if, say, Canada, invaded us, dissolved the military, and gas was $50.00 (Canadian) /gallon.
