Spending as little as possibe, what 4 valve euphonium would you purchase. This instrument will be used for light doubling (once or twice a year on a couple of pieces with no tuba) and mostly for fun.

A number of recent positive comments have been made about the "Schiller" 4 valve (3+1) compensating euphonium over on Dave Werden's web site. I know that 3+1 comps are not the favorite of many of the tuba players that frequent TubeNet, but for under $1000 (around $900 to be exact), these are pretty decent horns based on the reports of others.

Here are some options:

I just bought a really sweet playing King 2280 with 95% of the silver intact off eBay for $500.

A friend just bought a Besson 765 noncomp off CL for under $1000 and the horn looks and plays like it was brand new.

If you are patient you can get a really good deal. If you have to have it next week you'll probably have to pay through the nose or settle for something less.

The Weril is a solid horn. I liked the one I played before I went to a Yamaha. For $1k its a good buy.
