TubeNet

I'd like to post pics here to sell a couple of tubas. Never posting pictures here before, can someone provide some pointers on the procedure? I'll be using a Samsung phone/camera with 1.3 megapixels and posting to photoBucket or imageShack. What pixel size would be appropriate? Would I have to resize them for downloaded into a hosting site? Which site would better/easier for posting pics: photoBucket or imageShack? I'm not planning a huge internet social thing, I just want to sell a couple of horns!

Normally I would not be hot on anything Bundy, but an AAb sousaphone!

Let’s have the photos visible here. Maybe they would make it to my screen, if you took off your “p” key and rotated it 360°, so that it doesn’t produce that random “b” in the address sample.

If that AAb Bundy sousaphone really is for sale, I would want it delivered in a state of assembledness, not in pieces. Not even in blokepieces even if they appear being the craze of the wannabees right now.

I resize all the images I post to a long dimension of about 700 pixels. That might be right at the size produced by your cell phone or even a bit bigger, so you may not need to resize at all.

You can link to an image hosting service if you like, but don't expect your images to be there or at the same link in the long run. I've seen lots of free image hosting services come and go, and when they go, they unplug their server one day without warning and wipe their hard disks. Keep your own copies.

But you can also attach photos directly to your message using the new software. This will store the image on the Tubenet server. Readers will usually have to scroll around in the image, but it's a lot easier than dealing with external hosting for those who do it rarely.

In the long run, though, I would recommend investing in a real digital camera. The sensors on cell phones are about 1x2mm or something equally tiny, and the lenses are not wonderful. Plus, the plastic lens cover usually becomes hazy and scratched because it lacks proper protection. Even cheap digital cameras will have glass lenses that hide behind covers when not in use, and they usually have sensors of perhaps 3x5mm, which makes a big difference compared to a cell phone.

It is really tough to take someone seriously who is looking for C&C on a cellphone photo in various photography forums.

I think 1.3mp will size out at about 600x400.

OP:

See if you can borrow a digital camera. Even a point and shoot is fine. Take the tubas outside where light is plentiful. Bend your knees (if possible) and get on axis with the subject you are shooting. If you have an old film camera, then use that and get the photo CD option processing available at anyplace. I used a 35mm up until about 3 years ago for anything "serious" and converted to .jpeg at the store.

Photobucket, to me, is the easiest to use for online storage. Flickr is better, but not as user friendly.

600 x 400 = 240,000 pixels = 0.24 mp

1.3 mp = 1,300,000 pixels = (at 4 x 3 aspect ratio) 1,317 x 987 (approximately )
(and that *would* need reducing to fit well on screen)
