Diva..........best example?
In the car today, I was listening to NPR and heard Tchaik 2 with Sir George at the helm of the Paris Conservatory Orch., I think. The pricipal trumpet was 4 dynamics too loud with a pencil thin sound. He left the rest of the brass in his dust and carved up the strings with his rapier like tone. I would like to know who the culprit is because he would make my divas list. Must be someone important, I can't find the listing, for Sir George not to shut him down. Who is on your divas list? Mine is fully stocked with sopranos, trumpets, flutes and drummers(oops, I almost forgot the lone bass trombone).
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.

That was a recording from 1956 I think. The player was most certainly playing a small bore Selmer trumpet, which work very well for standard French fare, but not so much for a big blood-and-guts Russian piece. I haven't heard the recording, but honestly, when have you known Sir Georg Solti to ever give anyone, especially in the brass section "the hand."
Most of my diva list is filled with conductors, concertmasters, and sax players.
p.s. WHo is the bass trombone who makes you "Diva" list? Just curious, you can PM me your answer if you want...

Funny you should mention "Diva the band". Leslie Havens is an absolutely Kick A bass trombonist. Caught her with the Artie Shaw band in Asheville last year. What a sound out of a tiny, tiny person. She is definitely not a diva though. My wife and I had lunch at the table next to her the next day. As nice a down to earth, personable bass trombonist that I've ever met, for what ever that is worth.
