I am continually frustrated by the special treatment that celebrities get. If Jamal Lewis (Ravens RB) is going to plead guilty to drug conspiracy, why doesn't he have to do it now? You or I would be I the klink! He says that he's pleading guilty to avoid a trial, which because of it's Federal nature, could lead to many years in prison. With the plea, he'll end up with a few months. The NFL will suspend him (you or I would be fired) and he gets to play out the season. Take him in now!!! No special treatment!!!
A very funny comedian (sorry; don't remember who) does a hilarious bit about sports stars who get BONUSES for not breaking the law (apparently true!). Big-league ball player doesn't beat his wife this season: here's your check! Famous running back doesn't get arrested in a crack house: here's your check!
All of this special treatment of athletes is a very sad commentary on what our country's priorities are. Our justice system is said to be the best in the world. If that is true, the world has very little justice.
The way athletes are treated these days has left such a bitter taste in my mouth that I have lost a good deal of my zeal for watching sports. I watch some, but I used to watch much more. At the present rate of decline, I expect I will completely stop being a sports fan someday.

From what I read, the world does have very little justice, indeed.

I feel the same way and I know exactly when I first felt it. I was listening to the radio and heard that Tom Landry had been fired and I found out later that day that I knew it before Landry did. Since then pro sports have just gone downhill.
If you don't like it, do what I did, boycott every sporting event humanly possible and explain why when you are asked. Trust me, some will get it, those who don't belong in Category 2. If a high school football coach yells and screams at a child, it is to be interpreted as "building character", if a teacher tells a student that they are falling behind they are "hurting the childs self-esteem". I think you can guess why I don't have any patience with sports and what they teach our children. And, no, this isn't sour grapes on my part, I have seen the scenario played out far too many times in the past 7 years for me to even care about sports and the rotten message that it ultimately sends.
was set to start here at the UofO. Fortunately he failed to abide by the simplest ground rules and is gone without even having attended practice.
But the fact that the staff wouild even consider awarding a scholarship to him (note that no one talks about his GPA) has significantly damaged my opinion of the athletics department.

But some of these folks are continually in "the wrong place." Seems to me that one would keep oneself out of such places, if one had a modicum of sense and intelligence.....perhaps....
