Vegan Ice Cream

Ok, answering my own request for a topic I can wax positive about.

I'm allergic to all dairy, so... :( ... no ice cream. :( :( :(

BUT!!! Recently I discovered in the local health food stores something called Coconut Bliss. It is ice cream made from coconut milk, and the stuff is Fantastic!! They have mint chocolate chip, dark chocolate, cherry amaretto, other flavors (don't try the strawberry lime, it is awful) and they are GOOD. Unless you hate the background flavor of coconut. I like coconut, and mixing it with, for example, dark chocolate, makes for a rich flavor.

I may be a fat tuba player yet; I'm averaging a pint of this stuff over the weekend.
:D

On sale, so we gave it a try. I like it. They have a coconut lime flavor, for those who like coconut. I think the best dairy free option is sorbet, though - the ones with no oocky ingredients like guar gum, just fruit, sugar and water.

Guar gum, like xanthan gum, is a texture ingredient for people who cannot ingest gluten. I don't find them icky....my problem with sorbets that I have encountered is that they have huge amounts of high fructose corn syrup, or just plain corn syrup, and that stuff....gives me ZITS. Lots of them. In bad places. The coconut bliss stuff has agave nectar in it; that, and sugar, are my sweeteners of choice. Nothing with a name that I have to look up to find out what it is. My kind of stuff.

Come on, even "regular" ice cream usually has seaweed in it (caragheenen, however it is spelled,) also a texture ingredient.

I don't like the soy stuff....tastes like chalk; too sweet too. Bleah. Gimme coconut or gimme nuttin.

I wouldn't recommend that. There are probably others in this class, but what I was thinking of was "Ciao Bella". Ingredients are typically fruit and sugar, no corn.

The stuff I pictured a couple posts up has no soy.
