I started tuba end of 7th grade, I got braces between 8th-9th grade. *my teeth were REALLY bad*

I played on a 24aw, the way i dealt with em? I didnt' alter a thing. I sucked it up. I NEVER used wax of anykind, or any other kind of cushion.

I switched to a conn helleberg my sophomore year, again just continue to suck it up. I just recently got them off this year (senior). I like to think braces never really affected em alll that much, mainly cuz I didnt' let them. I was always praised for my tone while I had braces and even more so without em.

My suggestions, dont' alter anything. just deal with it. the pain WILL go away. I got to a point where I never had a problem playing normal stuff for band etc and only experienced any kind of pain when I played for extremely long periods of time, in higher register stuff.

My braces never hurt me, and i had them for 4 out of my nine years of playing. They didn't seem to affect my tone at all; got to State Band right after i got them on one year, and the second year, i got to state band right after i got them off. Perfect timing.
Good luck
