What I am curious about is why Bob is wearing completely different uniform to the rest of the group?

If you look *really* closely...you can tell he's playing false tones. :)

Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

When I taught at the SOM, some 20 years ago and things probably have changed ALOT since then, it was SOP that soldiers who had passed their F-1 (1st "jury" roughly 3 months into their 6 month schooling) could were their Class B uniforms for this type of job (student ensemble playing for a graduation, etc.). As Bob is a "newbie", he would be required to wear his BDU's EVERYWHERE when on duty. Civies were allowed for those who passed their F-1's and wanted to practice after duty hours. Bob being the big boy he is, undoubtedly poses a HUGE problem for the supply guys getting a proper fitting uniform. When I was in Basic in 1985 we had a guy who had size 16 EEEE feet. They had to make his footgear special, subsequently he wore sneakers until our 7th week. Just getting him outfitted with his basic combat gear must have been a nightmare. I like the new BDU's, but the jury is still out on the berets.

I am mystified by the comment of "The old SOM". Did they move buildings? I am interested to know. Bob is getting a GREAT comprhensive education. In 6 months he will have covered 2 years of college Theory and Ear-Training, played in some GREAT ensembles, and had lessons with a GREAT teacher. I sense he is in heaven right about now.

Hi Chuck, it's still the same old SOM, no new buildings to report. Sorry for the confusion. And though he's a reservist and not on the same 6 month schedule as active students, I can tell you that he does seem to enjoy being immersed in music again after basic training.

Hey, it's that guy I look like- me!! :D

I was measured for dress greens early on in Basic, but before I left I only got the shirts, shoes and miscellaneous. I am hoping the pants will get here before my graduation this Friday (and I still have to get them hemmed and my shirt set up!)!

I am on my second size set of ACU's and they don't fit either. I think I am going to try to push the custom size route a bit harder.
I was extremely happy to find a 5 valve Eb (it's a piston Hirsbrunner) at the SOM. I was less happy to find out that it's tuned to about 450, has not-so-hot valves, and some "interesting" tuning tendencies. Oh well.... At least it can crank pretty well on low F (boy I want to play Rite of Spring on this thing!).

I hear they like that "squeaky wheel" approach in basic.

I was surprised that he did not give us an assessment of the false tones of the Hirshbrunner he found to use.

What about it, Bob?

That's why he doesn't bother to sit up, because no one can see him.
