Changes that really tick me off!

The older I get, the less adaptible I become. Most changes that are forced upon me and cause me to change my lifestyle in any way are an irritant. Some really tick me off! Thought I would start a thread to see if any one else would like to share some abject changes with us.

I'll start. Jockey underwear. For 20+ years I have worn the exact same style of Jockey t-shirts. I knew what size to buy so that after a couple of washings they fit great from then on. Without notifying me, Jockey changed to a non-shrink fabric. Since last Christmas I have a half dozen tall man t-shirts that still come down to my knees. Every morning I have to go through the "tuck them into the pants somehow to avoid the bulge" routine. Using a urinal without wetting myself has become a real adventure. I will spend almost without limit on a horn, but I can't bring myself to throw away these perfectly good t-shirts and buy new. End of rant.

Seriously, why should folks have whatever they want? What is the point of traveling from one part of the world to the other in an hour accomplish? Where does education end?

THIS is the change that bothers ME. People of my generation want things without working for them. People of my generation are too quick to play the victim. People of my generation think they're entitled to things. Quite frankly, MY generation pisses me off!

You give this big rant about how the world is all bad, but what are you doing to change it? I do NOT want a world where everyone can have everything they wish. I do NOT want a world that has a capability to move that fast. Geeze, look at how many idiots are on the road right now! I think it's sad that you might think education ends. If that is the case for anyone, then they are just plain lazy.

G.M. quit making Oldsmobiles - big cars with a zoomy ride.
I liked Oldsmobiles.
Now Govt. Motors discontinued Pontiacs - midsize cars with a zoomy ride. I own one and liked them too.
I previously lusted in my heart after a Buick - another midsize car with a zoomy ride, but having served a hitch in the Marines and a career with the post office, I fear any pruduct the feds produce.
I ain't buyin' no stinkin' Toyota.

Toyotas are dinks that drive and look like crap. You don't drive a Toyota, you wear it. I had a Ford Falcon once that I bought new. It cranked every morning for so many years that I never have been so sick of a car. I was so glad the day when it threw a rod so I could get a zoomy used Oldsmobile with a huge trunk, tranny coolers, ice cold air, and a kickin' stereo.

I drive a Toyota Scion Xb (small box-like SUV) that gets 30 mpg. I carry my Conn 20J in its 2 large cases and have enough room left to take the reed guy with alto, tenor sax and clarinet as well as the trombone player with his horn plus folding chairs, sax stand and stool. All of us have plenty of leg and head room and the ride is very comfortable. We regularly drive to gigs 100+ miles one way. The list MSRP price on this car was $17,200 (2009) and has power everything, good stereo CD player, AC, cruise, and automatic tran as the base options. If GM or Ford or Chrysler would come out with something comparable I might consider buying one. My experience with American cars since 1964 has not been pleasant - they make a lot of overpriced unreliable crap. I also do not care to further subsidize the UAW - (I'll let my tax dollars do that.)

My parents have been driving Toyotas since the 70's (or so). When my brother learned to drive, he got a Corolla wagon. When I started (and my brother took his car), I ended up getting a 94 camry. It's had problems (but what car of that age hasn't), and I know it will do whatever I want it to do. Feels great to drive, and I wouldn't dream of driving anything else (except for a '69 VW bus. But that's not gunna happen)

That vehicle is way up at the top of my list of world's ugliest cars. Definitely in the top 5.

So far I have over 115,000 miles on my '05 Silverado. It's never had any mechanical problems at all. Still has the original brakes, even. The 2000 model I had before that never had any major problems. The 1990 Suburban before that I drove for 10 years and over 200,000 miles. The neighbor I sold it to drove it another 2 years before someone slammed into it and it was totaled.

First my wife and then each of my two kids drove our 1980 Chevy Cavalier until 2005. I think we got our money's worth out of that car over the 25 years we had it. My wife drives a 2006 Cavalier now. Zero problems.

But, if I ever have to drive to the North Pole I'll keep Toyota in mind.

What was so wrong with the ones mounted on the floor board? You could dim your lights in the middle of a turn without taking a hand off the wheel, making it easier for the oncoming car to miss you. You didn't turn on the wipers by mistake and look foolish to your date. The only drawback was that you couldn't shift from 2nd to 3rd and simultaneously dim the lights, big deal! For the majority of you who are not old enough to remember the flood mounted dimmer, it was a little button on the floor just to the left of the clutch that was activated with your left foot. If you were driving your girl to a movie you could use your feet for driving, one hand for steering, freeing the other hand.........

Plastic grocery bags.

Too limp to keep your groceries from spilling all over the back seat.

Paper bags held more and kept their contents inside better.

So now we have to buy and carry around pc "eco-friendly" cloth bags. And keep up with them.

Makes sense to me...like the car dashboard light system to me though -- yellow is for caution, be careful/get it checked out soon; red is for warning, pay attention NOW!

Nothing, as long as the temperature outside doesn't drop too far below freezing -- it's pretty bad when the switch freezes and won't move at all, but it's worse when it works *once* and then freezes (usually with the high beams on -- gets you honked at, yelled at and flipped off a lot). When you have several months a year of sub-freezing temperatures (as we do here), that's a serious defect!

The serious defect was the Detriot engineer who decided not insulate(and waterproof) the switch.

It wasn't just one engineer -- I've driven a fair number of cars and trucks (from different manufacturers) with foot switches, and they all had that problem. The solution was to get the switch up out of the !@#$% snow-and-ice-crapola that was messing it up, which they did (and about damn time, too -- only took 'em what, 80 years? sheesh!).

This is not yet true. Probably will be. It is interesting to read what some of the research reveals concerning the impact the using of these various items has on our environment. It is isn't always what we are told.
