Enough already! After 3 years of a 100 year drought we have had 15 inches of rain in the last 5 days. It has been raining at my house at over 1 inch per hour for the last 2 hours without a break. Atlanta is under water folks. All 16 lanes of the perimeter were blocked this morning for several hours by water backup from a clogged storm drain. They said the traffic was backed up for 15 miles in both directions. Does anybody know where those ark plans can be found on the internet?

But next year there will be water shortages again. There is not the foresight to expand reservoir capacity and flood control to keep and utilize much of this water. Much easier to have an "emergency" this year because of too much water, and another "emergency" 8 months from now claiming a water shortage. Short-term thinking always trumps the big picture.

Can't help but be political but I won't name names. My county, proactively, in order to expand the water storage capacity, made a deal some years ago with a county further north to finance a new state of the art dam and share the water with them. A neighboring state got a court order to stop the proceedings, just as it neared completion, claiming that they had as much right to the water as we did because it damned a small tributary of a river that flowed into their state. At the same time we were on strict water rationing and they never enacted any water control measures. Yeah, it's political. That's the problem. Too many policiticians and too many lawyers all wanting paydays out of my pocket.

That's my state you're talking about buddy!!! I will be the first to admit that I do NOT know all of the details of this situation, BUT I do know that water was being rationed during that shortage a couple years ago.

I never thought that I would be sick of rain. Up here in Clayton we've had a couple of mountain sides slide off. When you think it can't rain anymore it rains harder. It dropped about 2 1/2 inches in a hour night before last. Rabun County schools were called off today. I'm in Gainesville (Georgia) right now and Gainesville city and Hall County schools are in session today. Anything down that way (Atlanta) out of school today?

The district we live in, Forsyth County, was closed today. I don't know that I've ever seen so much rain in such a short period of time. It is, however, nice to see Lanier nearly full.

My brother-in-law in said neighboring state has been using his sprinkler system legally for 3 years every other day. No restrictions. I turned mine off for 2 years lest I incur minimum fines of $500 per incident if caught using it at all for any reason at any time. I was allowed to turn it back on in July this year, but only for specific times on specific days. But I learned something. My grass survived and I now water at 1/3 the rate. I collect rain water in barrels to feed my plants. I don't mind this at all because I really want to have some to drink from time to time. I think we should lock the dams down, put our National Guard at the border and dare the mussel lovers to come and get it.

Seriously, one of the fatalities was a 2 year old. Kind of puts things into perspective.

Our esteemed(cough, cough)state insurance commissioner was on the tube today running for gov. again. He just said that if everyone had flood insurance whether they live in a flood zone or not, all this mess would either be covered by their homeowners policy or FEMA. He's the insurance commissioner. He has to know about the coverage gap. He has to know that his statement is a bold faced lie. I hate policitians.

WTB - Rain by the bucket or tanker load. Large quantity desired. Offering $1/inch/acre, prefer immediate delivery via air cargo (COD). Please do not send via Air France or other AirBus carriers as those planes don't mix with water. (If it ain't Boeing it ain't going).

Hey, that 15 inches in 3 days would be just about ideal here in this part of OZ where we haven't had that much in the past year. Just hope I'm at the pub when it starts and I get flooded in where ever I am!!

I doubt you can count on politicians to do much to solve water problems, especially when neighbors, local councils, and state governments all tend to fight about it rather than constructively work together.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but it's about to get a lot worse. My mother in AR, just North of Shreveport, got 10 inches in 24 hours and it is headed your way.
