Hello Everyone,

Four years ago my son Karl was diagnosed with type 1 (juvenile) diabetes. He will be insulin-dependent for the rest of his life. In the past four years he has endured over 5,000 fingerpricks and glucose tests. Luckily he has been able to use an insulin pump for the past two years, which has allowed him to get his insulin doses without painful injections from a syringe. This has helped him to have a more flexible diet and eat and act more like a typical teenager. At Oley Valley HS he is active in cross country, marching band and theater.

Research by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation helped to develop the insulin pump and has helped thousands of diabetics enjoy a more “normal” and glucose/insulin stable lifestyle. Further research will help develop automatic glucose monitors and an artificial pancreas, which will be able to automatically monitor blood glucose levels and dispense insulin. Or perhaps, someday, find a cure.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is the #1 non-profit funder of diabetes research worldwide. One of JDRF’s largest fundraising events is the “Walk to Cure Diabetes.” This year’s walk will be held Sunday, October 18th at Gring’s Mill park.

If you are interested, there are three ways you can help us make a difference:
• Join our walk team “Karl’s Krew” and help us raise money for JDRF’s Walk for a Cure.

• You can send me a tax-deductible contribution in any amount, made payable to JDRF. I will deliver any donations the day of the Walk. If you want to send me a check PM me or email me at tubabone "at" ptd "dot" net.

• Log onto http://www.walk.jdrf.org" target="_blank" target="_blank and make an online donation in my name, Kenneth Kemmerer, team name “Karl’s Krew” The walk is in PA.

Any help you can give towards this cause will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Ken Kemmerer
