Thanksgiving is over. It was good. Christmas is coming. I put up the tree today (10' pre-lit artificial) while listening to Clyde McCoy's 'Sugar Blues' album. Got a concert tonight with The Owensboro Community Band. Yeah... life is good.

What are you guys doing today?

Tonight I am playing the Nutcracker (5th year straight) with the Finger Lakes Symphony. Then it is time to head back to school for the last few weeks of the semester, can't wait 'til this one is over!

Finishing/starting a speech, Practicing audition music, maybe practicing piano, and driving back to school . But only two more weeks until Winter break, but those two weeks are full of final exams and Juries. Oh boy!

Today is Grey Cup Sunday in Canada. Our home team, the Saskatchewan Roughriders, will be playing the Montreal Alouettes for the league championship at 4pm CST. We'll be watching and cheering along. Also some practice for two upcoming concerts within the next two weeks. Still trying to get a handle on this rotary tuba as well.

Mom and I had a cool day going to a park to play around*, see one of my tuber-playin' friends at that park, eating some US 1-quality BBQ, going to another park to play around* in and scheduling a lesson. Great day, I'd say.


* Play around = she throws the Frisbee, I run my butt off to get it, and she complains about HER legs hurting in the car.

It's looking up. Bloke laid out the possibility of getting the 24J. Working on finding that acre of wood and magnesium engine blocks right now. Maybe throw in a truck load of old tires for good measure.

Played 9 holes of horrible golf this morning with the wife (note: that's in northern Ohio during the last week in November), then TubaChristmas Cleveland this afternoon. My four concerts in four week with 4 different groups is now over. Going back to work in the morning after 5 days off. Life is good.

Got the Christmas lights up outside, got ready for a small TV spot that the tuba ensemble is shooting today. Range quals this morning, then the TV spot at noon. Nice sergeant told me to "take care of the qual, then take the rest of the day off with your tuba".

After spending years since 1967 with a bag over my head, seeing my New Orleans Saints disgraced, victimized, pulverized and joked about, I stayed up late last night to see my 11 - 0 Saints go through a formerly fabulous New England Patriots football team like crap through a goose.

I am not, I repeat, NOT an 'aints fan, but I thoroughly delighted in watching Brees dismantle the vaunted NE defense. It has been a while since I have seen a quarterback play up to that level. I think I saw a 158 rating somewhere. The Boston Herald called it something like a perfect perfromance. I hope my Falcons can hang when he comes in here in a couple of weeks. I'm hopeful but not optimistic.

Wow! The Saints made the Patriots look like a very very ordinary football team. I was very impressed by their performance. Drew Brees played extremely well and led his team to a well deserved victory. I can remember back to the days of Archie Manning and the bags over the head so Good Job Saints!

Funace - smurnace. You've got acres of perfectly good heating fuel just waiting to be cut, split, stacked and burned. Why do you need a silly little circuit board anyway? I know, you are afraid by burning fossil fuel you might be causing global warming, right?

Did you do the diagnosis yourself? My furnace 'fooled' me a couple of weeks ago. I installed a Pace/Hamilton/Winchester furnace myself about ten years ago. It's marketed by Unitrol in Columbus, Ohio. It's NOT the 'super high-efficiency' model with the two stage heat exchanger but is the 85% efficient model that utilizes a small blower to make sure the draft is working before the gas valve comes on and the hot-plate ignition lights up.

I heard the draft motor running but the control would not get to the point of turning on the gas valve. Turns out that the little squirrel-cage fan on the draft inducer had totally gone to pieces due to corrosion. I probably would have suspected the circuit board but thought to jump the pressure switch that senses the draft first. A new draft inducer blower assembly was sent from Columbus next day.

BTW... I have a spare circuit board for this furnace that was sent free-of-charge when I initially had start-up problems ten years ago.

Sometimes the problems of home ownership are a pain in the ***. But.... life is STILL good!

According to the latest survey, life is only as good as where you live. Maybe this explains some of the deviant behavior on this board? Then again maybe it's just low brass players in general.
