Ah, the speed of the Internet --
If y'all didn't see the actual live broadcast of Saturday Night Live last night (as opposed to the taped delay on the west coast), you missed seeing a lip-sync gaffe that's sure to be replayed many times over.

Also, go see
http://www.lipsync.us/ -- it's a website devoted to the incident.

Really sad, isn't it, about what passes for "performing art" nowadays...

I actually was watching that particular SNL last night.
She had the audacity to blame her band for "playing the wrong song".
I guess it was a song she was expected to actually "sing".
The fools!

Yup -- she blamed the band.
The vocal track (it feels SO WRONG to have to refer to a vocal track for a Saturday Night Live performance!) was also the same track as the song she "performed" earlier that night. A fan had even wondered why the earlier song sounded exactly like the radio edit.
Also, she's been quoted in an interview as saying that she'd never lip-sync a performance because, "It's just not me."

Thanks for the URL(s) -- just watched it -- 'zooks, what a hoot! She looks a little out-of-sync ... or maybe it's just that "sync-ing feeling" setting in ... ah, the perils of a live performance (as we all know)!

...This one kinda reminded me of a semi-anorexic Monica L.
It *was* pretty bad, but did it really ...
oops ...
was it really that bad? (well, yeah, actually it did ...
I mean ... was

Subwoofer wrote:Ashlee acted like a total B**** all week long at SNL. Word is, one of the SNL staffers had some fun with Ashlee Saturday night. I sure hope its true!
Ken
Are you sure she was acting?

That would explain a lot -- it has the feel of a setup job, doesn't it? Yee-ha ...

Too bad SNL performances aren't like this anymore.
The mellow sounds of FZ.

What's funny is that Zappa may have pulled off one of the first recorded "live" performances.
A modern music ensemble wanted to commission him to write a work for performance, and he presented them with some stuff that was truly very, very difficult. So hard, in fact, that they
gave up, saying that there was no way they could get it peformance-quality in time.
So, he says that's fine, he'll just run it through his Synclavier (which is what he used to write it, anyway), and play the recording through speakers on stage while the group pretended to play.
The result was seamless enough that none of the music critics (whom he hated anyway) in the audience even suspected what was going on. The charade lasted for a week or two before some of the ensemble members leaked the story.
Zappa, understandably, reveled in having fooled music critics who supposedly knew so much about music performance.

Ashlee??? Is that Bart's sister?
Just goes to show ya how out of touch I am. I've never heard of her until I saw part of the SNL schtick.
