How to build a tuba.....
Hey, just wondering what the basic tools that one would need to build or fix a tuba, besides a tuba. All imput is helpful. Didn't know where else to put this post besides here. Move if a better place is found.

Someone on TubeNet is selling about 2/3rds+ of a MW 20 BBb:

That should be enough to get ya goin'. Putting together a tuba from three or four hulks might be easier than building from scratch.
Dan O. also has some photos from inside the Conn factory way back when. It's in the gallery section.

A good place to start is the Ferree's tool catalog, and a copy of the Erick Brand book (which Ferree's sells). Not totally accurate and now very old, but will generally point you in the right direction. The catalog also shows many of the tools being used, which gives an idea of how they work, especially for someone already mechanically adept.shinytuba7 wrote:Hey, just wondering what the basic tools that one would need to build or fix a tuba, besides a tuba. Ferree's identifies lists of tools for a generally equipped shop (or they used to). Bring your checkbook.
They also have "student" tools if you just want to screw around enough to learn just how hard it really is.

Gosh Brian, After watching that you would think it would be easier to make them out of plastic or something.
I am fortunate to have a great job that feeds my family well, but music feeds my soul.
