Biathletes.

Short Track Speed Skating is really cool.

It is not based on any aspect of judging, except rules regulations.
It is extremely dangerous.
There is a TON of gameplanning.
It is EXTREMELY athletic.
There are a lot of lead changes.

I have never liked the olympic winter sports, but I am really glad I forced myself to watch one race of this. It is quite entertaining.

After repeatedly studying the choice Bloke offered, I was unable to decide.

I respect the Hockey players from around the world. Mostly NHL players, they've been playing games almost every other day with their respective teams and are now playing with their "enemies" and against their teammates. And then the factor of travel and added practices to through a patched together team.

I agree with Bloke about the CC skiers- what athletes! But... The biathelon adds the target shooting into the mix and I think tht is the hardest winter sport to do well in.

I would say the Cross country skiers and the Biathletes, two crazy endurance events.
there is a XC skier on the US team who is a type 1 diabetic also. Read an article in the paper to day about him and there are some vids on youtube about him. My son was very interested in him. My son is also a type 1 and runs cross country and other endurance trail runs etc. So he thought it was pretty cool.

For a new Biathlon I would propose this....

ski a couple Ks and then sit to play the Hindemith sonata, the fewest "cracks" wins.
