I was really surprised today when I heard a recording of Adam Frey playing the Cosma Euphonium Concerto with the New Zealand Symphony today on Sirius Channel #80 Symphony Hall. I was surprised by several things.
1- This is the "hard core" classical music channel and they played a euphonium concerto.
2- They played all 3 movements rather than just one. A rare thing to happen. Ususally you just get one single movement of a piece.
3- The fact than anything even close to music that included a euphonium was played there.
4 - The radio announcer guy actually got really close to getting his explanation of a euphonium correct ..... (sigh) ..
just once it would be nice ..... just once ....
