This is something that has annoyed me for a while. Why do the inserts in CD's never list the names of the people playing, other than just the name of the orchestra and the conductor?

Many times I have thought "I wonder who the tuba player is on this recording?" but I have no way of knowing because the orchestra members' names are not listed along with the CD. This would be valuable information to have, and would not take up more than a page or two of space in the cover booklet.

Why not?

Just like any company, an orchestra is one unit. It is pretty easy for someone with a question like yours to access a computer and look up what player it may have been. These things take money. Some recordings like Erato, do list the players, but every page costs $$$. The players are paid for their sound to be part of a group.

But I do think it's cool when all arists are mentioned. It just isn't economical for most record companies.

Why don't the Yankees, Red-Sox, and yes, even the Giants, wear names on the backs of their jerseys?
