Pep Band members going to tournament games

Post by Uncle Buck »

Basketball pep band is one of my funnest memories from college. (It's also sad when I realize that I was in the pep band the last year, 1993, my school won an NCAA tournament game.) Who on this board is preparing for a trip to an NCAA tourney game with your pep band?

I'm not exactly answering your question here, but about 10 years ago, I got to do the pep band travel circuit (probably 10 or 11 trips over 3 years?). Got to go to 2 Final Fours, including a national championship. I would agree, those were some of the funnest memories from college. The games were always great, and so were the side trips on our off-days!

And as a broke college kid, "per diem" are about the best 2 words you can hear. I used to call it "getting paid to skip class and go watch basketball from courtside."

As a student, I knew this was not normal, and a very fortunate position to be in. As I get older, I realize it even more!

I'm not the biggest sports fan but I do enjoy "big" games. Tons of people, everyone going crazy, per diem for trips, yada yada yada. We, UAB, just got back from the C-USA tournament in Tulsa, OK. The ride sucked miserably and the men crapped out on their first game. The women, however, made it to the championship game and lost to Tulane by 8. It was crazy exciting that was the first time they made it that far in years and most had lost hope in them until then. No NCAA trip for us but the men are playing an NIT game tomorrow against Coastal Carolina. Should be fun, maybe, as long as they don't play the way they did aganst Houston last week.

Thanks for the reminder, Bort. I had forgotten what magic words "per diem" are.

But your "old" coach is going. Wen he was there you guys went a lot. Now his new school is going. Can we extrapolate from the past?
