The power of TV: Milgram's experiment in 21st Century France

It's frightening how much power the TV seems to have over people. TV, mob encouragement, and the offer of "you've won" seem to be more persuasive than 80% of the contestants personal morals. I don't know if something like this could happen in the US; hopefully, medical ethical standards are higher here than elsewhere.

Thoughts?

What a revoltin' development. Seriously, this is a troubling commentary on the depths to which we have fallen as human beings. But then I seem to remember a society 2000 or so years ago where the primary entertainment was watching people be killed in various ways. Maybe we just reverted.

This is not all that surprising. Consider the number of posts on some of the so called "social" networking sites with footage of young girls kicking the crap out of even younger, defencless girls just to get five minutes of stardom on the web. Or violence at football (especially soccer) games. And then there is cage fighting - what great conditioning for teaching respect for human life and dignity.

Many tests like this have proven that mankind is the true "savage beast"

Ken - who prefers the company of a horse to many people.
