Decibel Threshold Indicator??

I haven't begun to do any real research on this subject and thought I might save myself hours of time by throwing the challenge out here first. (Hey... Rick Denny!)
I play in an ensemble with a deaf (yes, deaf!) trumpet player. He really has no idea how loudly he is playing. All he knows is that he can't hear himself. You can predict the outcome. I would like to have something that can be clipped to his horn.... has a setable threshold and a couple of led's... maybe a green, yellow, and RED one. He's a really wonderful trumpet player and knows the material forward and backward. Usually a kick from the trombone or clarinet player wakes him up. I would like to be able to signal him that he is playing too loudly without causing a commotion. Any ideas?
