I've never seen one but would possibly be interested. I've got a nice soprano recorder but it has the flat smooth holes that seem to be the norm.

couldn't you, as the repairman you are, make a normal one, one with raised holes? While it may be more work than it's worth...sometimes if you want something enough, you have to do it yourself...

I've never seen a recorder with raised holes, but to add a ridge around the edge of a pre-existing recorder, you could carefully paint around the edges of the holes with some sort of craft paint:

make a mound with bondo filler and drill a hole through it.....might be a little crude though

Probably a stupid question but would a suzuki precorder do the trick? I'm not sure of the range and it is a really "cheap" build but maybe worth a try.

Maybe I'm just bitter because I was expelled from flutophone class in the 3rd grade, but it isn't a recorder, and the precorder looks like the same thing - big tapered bore that will be easy to play in the 1st register, but won't sound like a recorder.

I didn't do well with flutophone, either. The one I remember had a little bell on it... unlike the precorder.

Right, but bound to be mostly decorative. The key feature is the bore - baroque recorders' bore tapers like that, but it's much narrower and more subtle. So it takes a little breath control to make it work.

I don't remember actually having any problem with the flutophone, just the teacher. Big class, everyone was having a good time but not exactly focusing on the flutophone business, and the frustrated teacher hollers out something like `Do you kids want to learn the flutophone or not!?' We all hollered back `No!' (as might have been expected. This was 1963, we didn't brandish weapons or anything but there were some holes in discipline.) Whereupon we were marched back to our regular classrooms and asked to raise our hands if we said `no'. Not `did you seriously not want to learn the flutophone', but `will you admit to saying no, or will you lie about it?' This turned up about a half dozen honest kids, who were obliged to stay in the classroom and copy from textbooks during flutophone class. I learned from this: if you can get away with it, always lie!

But who knows, lots of people stay in the school programs all the way through, and then play much less music as adults than I have with no flutophone class, no HS band, etc., so maybe while it felt like punishment at the time, it was probably a good deal.
