Say a prayer for Marty!

Post by MileMarkerZero »

Not looking good for our friend Marty. This is Tulip Grove Rd., the main road that accesses his subdivision. Looking at the pic with the stop sign, Marty lives about 100 yards to the left and behind the condos. The second pic is from the same place, looking 90° to the right. :(

Best wishes, Marty! Hope you and yours are safe!

EDIT:

In looking at google maps, I see that there is a small river/large creek about 100 feet from Marty's back door. This isn't good at all.

I am convinced that 90% of the problems with rhythm, tone, intonation, articulation, technique, and overall prowess on the horn are related to air issues.

Marty is just fine. He and his kids were at the apartment all weekend. We even fought the torrential rains, closed interstates, and downed trees to go to church in Franklin this morning. Too bad noone else did! At least it got us out of the house for a few hours.
I just came back from dropping the kids home. Tulip Grove was closed about a block from my former place of dwelling, due to flooding (I think this was one of Steve's pics), but I usually go the other direction anyway. We used to have a large depression in the back of the property that would fill up like a lake, but last fall I had it filled in with six dump truck loads of dirt. The house and grounds seemed to do fine, except for a slightly flooded driveway.
Now, about that creek. There are two or three houses between that one and the creek. The house closest to the creek had water up to the mailbox at one point in time!
I got a text message from my supervisor at work a few minutes ago. I guess he saw the same pictures Steve did.

Good news!!!

Glad you're doin' OK.

Unfortunately, the last time I heard from my parents they had been stuck in the I-40 closure near Dickson for over two hours. Now I can't get them on their cell phones. After looking at all of the flooding, I hope they're OK.

Fortunately, it looks as though the rains are not as heavy as they cross the plateau towards me. Maybe we won't need my brother in law's bass boat after all.

I use a laptop from work with a supplied AT&T internet card (uses cell phone signals.) This morning I had a very hard time connecting. I am sure any communication issues are due to either the sporadic power outages we have been experiencing, or the cell towers are overwhelmed due to all the calls. I honestly would not be worried.

P.S. I just noticed that I started my original reply in the "third person," and I am not even in the NBA!

Thanks, Marty. That does make Steve feel a little better. :)

Fat floats. After the next Great Flood, the earth will be repopulated by tuba players.

We're building the great ark now. And we won't let a single conductor on it!
Instead of talking to your plants, if you yelled at them would they still grow, but only to be troubled and insecure?

Apparently, our Symphony's beautiful new home is taking a beating:
From The Tennessean:
There is 8-10 feet of water in basement of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center and the water continues to rise.
The basement’s ceilings are 10-12 feet high, which means that in places the water is almost reaching the ceiling, said Alan Bostick, senior director of communications.
“At this point we feel the main concert hall is out of danger,” Bostick said. “It’s our hope that the flooding will not rise beyond the basement level, but, of course, all bets are off because this is new territory for us and no one knows how high the Cumberland is going to reach.”
The basement level includes the kitchen, some office space and other storage areas. The Schermerhorn has confirmed the loss of two Steinway Grand Pianos and its organ console, or keyboard.
The symphony has been forced to rethink the upcoming concerts at least for the next month.
Although I am not in any way involved with the NSO, I truly hope our bass playing brethren haven't lost instruments that may have been in basement storage.
