Would "Mendez trumpet" be off topic? :)
Surely there are a few of you who are trumpet enthusiasts, too! I just purchased an Olds 'Mendez' trumpet... serial number 86004. My preliminary research indicates that production of these trumpets began in late 1952 with serial number 86000. The first fifty were designated 'presentation' units and were intended for Raphael Mendez's personal friends. Anyone have more information?

My pleasure. May I respectfully request that you keep us informed of what you discover? Sounds like a special instrument, and one that may have some "history" attached.TubaTinker wrote:Great information. There is a couple of pro trumpet players here in Denmark who uses these trumpets exclusively and own multiple samples.
A good trumpet (even by todays standard) as I understand it.

No trumpeter I, but Mendez rocked - his namesakes no doubt do as well. I am very jealous of your find!

Hmmm, I have one of these. Missed when the thread went up. Mine is 402XXX serial number. Bought it on the bay, of course, several years ago. Mine has been re-done, but plays just as well as my partners 402XXX series that has not been redone. Partner has three fab trumpets...the Mendez, a Bach Strad (old, good one) and a Getzen Eterna. All play very well, but the Mendez plays better than the other two, which is why I bought mine. Don't care that it's not original, care how it plays, which is fabulous. I'm no trumpet player, but I still like this one, which is sitting on a stand about five feet from me. Valve action like butter, easy full range, flexible sound.
