5 of the biggest MISREPRESENTATIONS of high school ANYTHING I have ever seen. Ugh, I need to brush my teeth. The thought of any of them makes me throw-up a little in my mouth.

Lest You think I am one of "those" High School teachers who grumbles their way through the day, tomorrow night my Advanced Orchestra will be performing Handel Concerto Grosso Op. 6, No. 1, Schubert's "Mass in G", and Navarra by Sarasate with 2 of the best young violin players west of the Mississippi. Later we will be joined on stage by all 95 of my students for our traditional Senior send-off "Plink, Plank, Plunk". I love my job, I love my kids, I hate musicals, but I love good music. Oh yeah, my 60 piece intermediate orchestra will play the stuff out of music by Mosier, Del Borgo, and Hofeldt. I am the luckiest man on the face of the earth. I am living the dream of having done nothing but music for my entire life. As ironic as it may sound, getting FD was both the WORST and the BEST thing to ever happen to me. I may have lost the ability to play, but it also gave me the opportunity to do what I think is the greatest thing I have ever done in my life:Teach young people. I am truly blessed by whatever or whomever looks out for the insignificant.

I LOVED playing "Plink, Plank, Plunk" and pretty much any other Leroy Anderson stuff for strings. What other tune gives a bass player the chance to slam the strings against the fingerboard (Bartok pizz.) and "squeak" the back of the bass with an open palm? Good times, there.

Bless you, Chuck, for sharing your talents with these young people. I have no doubt you will reap great rewards because of it.

I have trouble with shows that present plausible situations with completely implausible events ("Lost", "Glee", etc., etc.)

If a show is going to be completely implausible, bring on Spiderman, etc.

How about "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" ? Toattly acurate account of high schools including the following: getting high,telling the teacher off, getting caught j****king off to a hottie,loads of sex,abortions.... etc

Shows about kids in High School are universally bad. The depiction of "high school" students is so far off -- many kids in *college* haven't even reached the maturity level shown by these "high school students." But how interesting would it be to watch a bunch of shy, awkward, ugly kids?

I saw it once. I don't feel anything about it. However, it is increasing my $$ when kids want to be in theatre. In my area there's more and more kids theatre, which means more work for musicians. I think this is translating to ticket sales also.

Please keep in mind that its supposed to be entertaining--who wants to see a show about what really goes on in high school?? It wouldn't last 2 weeks.

For those of us over the age of 35, we are not the "target audience" anymore, so most programming you see you probably won't like.

Please keep in mind that music subjective--what you may absolutely HATE others may LOVE---its all about personal taste.

Hmmm.. Well I suppose that being 16 I am the target audience lol.... However I realize that Glee is nothing like reality, but the message the show tries to portray is why I watch.

During high school, my happiest moments occurred when I was in the pit, part of a musical theater ensemble for the musical Carousel. I have always been a Rogers & Hart, and Rogers and Hammerstein fan. An activity that encourages any music, or performing arts activity can't be all bad.

I appreciate Chuck Jackson's remarks about the student orchestra he conducts/instructs, but not all of us come from such high octane environments/schools. I was very fortunate to have had excellent instrumental and vocal instructors who were able to meet us where we were - a smallish rural Southeastern Minnesota community.

The most unrealistic thing about TV shows and movies that portray high school situations is the extensive "adult-ish/quasi-profound" dialog.

Just finishing up my 12th year as a teacher. This may be THE most accurate statement ever said about any portrayal of teenagers in movies/TV. The one thing I have noticed about the majority of kids I teach (I have everything from juvenile delinquents to Valedictorians) is how shallow their conversations are. I can count on one hand the times I have had an erudite conversation with a child and that particular child was home-schooled, incredibly well read (had a fascinating conversation on Herodutus' "Histories" the other day), and very insightful. I have met this child's parents and they are fascinating people. I have met parents that are poster children for Planned Parenthood. It's about the home life people. Most kids want to talk about clothes, boys/girls, video games, and social things, YET I am still amazed on a daily basis at how well they perform.

I view movies and TV shows that are teen-centric as a chance for adults to voice their own views, not the other way around.

I still LOVE teenagers. They are an endless source of energy.
