Guys and Gals -It's summer !! It's hot , it's sunny , sometimes we have to play outdoors. What do you use for protection from the elements ( SUN ) , specifically for your lips ?

Friends don't let friends use lip junk with camphor in it.

Use DCT, Chicken Poop (that's the name of the product), or Burt's.

I am a fan of the Chopsaver.

I repeat the above: NO CAMPHOR! It may feel better for a short time, but the camphor numbs the nerve endings in your embouchure and in the long run can cause damage.

DCT about an hour before, and again after I'm done. But not during. I can't play with any "stuff" on my lips. Though really, if you're playing *a lot*, the mouthpiece will cover your lips, and you'll be cool. :)

Oh, and sunblock, all over. Skin cancer ain't cool.

A few friends of mine became "addicted" to chapstick.

Recently, my wife was using Burt's Bees stuff on her lips, and (yup) discovered that she was "needing" it well after her acute condition disappeared.

Great advice.

It does seem odd that she would be addicted to Burt's, however, as the chemical that most people find addicting in lip junk is Camphor.

Burt's uses peppermint oil to simulate the nerve "tingle" that camphor gives. I find it absolutely delightful, she probably does, too. :-)
