Hey all!

I will be spending the next semester (beginning next week) in Vienna studying music. I have never been to the City, nor have I been to Europe.

Do any Tubenetters have any suggestions on cheap/good places to eat, and attractions I *have* to check out before I depart in May?

If all else fails, you can probably spot a McDonalds or Pizza Hut every block or two.

I can't give you any suggestions on places to eat since I just went where our tour guide took us but there are countless places to go visit.

The cemetary has an entire area dedicated to musicians/composers. Beethoven, Schubert and Mozart are just a few of the big names there.

St. Stephansdom is a must see. I was in absolute awe both seeing it from the outside and inside. It has a 400' tower that they built with nothing but scaffolding! It's incredible.

Mozart Haus (House) is just around the corner from St. Stephansdom and it was amazing to be in the same house and walk on the same floors as Mozart. They have original instruments and scores that he wrote there...so cool.

Schönbrunn Palace. I believe it was the winter palace of the Hapsburgs and was modeled after Versaillse. It's HUGE and a sight to behold.

There are lots of other places I never got to see but there are tours you can take...by far my favorite place I've ever been to in the world. You should enjoy it!

Buy this book: Vienna for the Music Lover by Dr. David Nelson. I took a couple of theory classes with Dr. Nelson and several of my friends have gone on his Vienna/Salzburg trip. I highly recommend emailing him if you have any questions.

I really would rather not go the chain restaurant route. I will be there for about 150 days, and I am on a limited budget. Eating out will likely be a rare thing, and I would rather enjoy the local cuisine!

I am a fan! However, I never knew they were Austrian!
