With a smile on his face, a member of this august panel told me once during a long, long rest. I just compute how much I make per note. :P :P :P

John's a well-seasoned pro. Please say "howdy!" to him from UncleBeer next time you see him.

Here ya go:

Dream: play great music with great musicians
Reality: play so-so, unknown music for crappy conductors

Dream: Play Bruckner, Wagner, Mahler, Stravinsky
Reality: Play 'Nutcracker' 600 times

Dream: Play great music in great halls
Reality: Play obscure ballet music in a cramped pit

Dream: All that Strauss, Tchaikovsky, Vaughan Williams, Bartok
Reality: All that pops, musicals, and concerto accompaniaments

I'm not complaining, simply answering the question, dream vs. reality? Jes' sayin'....
