Yamaha parts counter

Post by WakinAZ »

Please help me fix up my Craigslist electric bass: Yamaha Rbx 170 bass wing nut type deal that goes onto peg is missing (see pic). Tuning peg "key" or entire assembly, what is the part # and how much? Yamaha dealers, PM me directly if you are willing to sell it to me.

Thanks,
Eric

Here's a link to Yamaha parts breakdown for different instruments. You can't order from there, but you might be able to find a workable part number.

http://parts-search.yamaha.co.jp/html/W ... roup_e.php

Scroll all the way down the page till you see guitars. I can't find your model number, but there's got to be a some standardization for those tuning keys.

There don't seem to be any solid body guitars on that website.
In any case, i'd imagine that you'll need to buy an entire new machine.
QC50900 is that part # for the E and A machines, QC71050 for the D and G.

Thx Rick and Jaco. Never underestimate the power of TubeNet. Yamaha seems to keep their parts distribution pretty locked down, nothing on the 'net for the part numbers. Guess I'll have to pay dealer retail. Love 'em or hate 'em Yamaha seems to know how to run their business.

You would probably be better off spending the $$ and getting a set of lightweight Hipshots so they will be durable and hold tune.

Good suggestion, prolly a better option than the Yamaha part/price.

Thx,

You're welcome. When I put my custom fanned fret P-style bass together, I opted for these and haven't looked back. They also keep the neck from diving. I can see that your Yammy has smaller tuners, and the Hipshot comes in two different post sizes. It's worth any modification you might have to do to the headstock to make sure they fit.

Trivia for the day: traditional large Fender style tuners weigh about 4 ounces each. So that's a full pound of dead weight on the headstock. These Hipshot Ultralights weigh about 2 ounces each, saving a full half-pound of weight at the headstock. That may not seem like much, but to get rid of neck dive and ease the shoulder over a three-hour gig is really noticable.
