How long will it be before restaurants start charging for water with meal? Has anyone been charged yet?

Maybe in Altanta (or another place where water is scarce)? More likely, they would just increase their costs slightly. Restaurants use far more water for cleaning than they do serving in glasses.

My turn to sound like a loonie... as a side note to all this doom and gloom -- people have survived the past 200,000 years (or 6,000, or whatever you believe) by living close to food supplies and fresh water. Sure, we can dam our rivers, make gardens in the desert, and have AC in 120 degree temperatures. But is that *really* a good idea? At some point, nature is going to win, end of story. If things dry up, move on! That's partially why I think places like Cleveland and Detroit will rise again -- the land is good, there's plenty of water, food supplies, and *logical* land. Industry has sort of come and gone through there, but it's good land, and makes a whole lot more sense for humans to live there than in the middle of a desert.

In Europe... they've been charging for water for years... both still and carbonated.

Since I've never been to a hospital or a people doctor in my life, I guess I don't know what I'm talking about----------------have always gone to a vet---since their patients can't tell them whats wrong with them, I always figured a vet was smarter than a people doc.

In Europe they will always bring you bottled water unless you specifically ask for 'tap water'.

The price will often be more than light drinks

With global warming progressing well, there'll be plenty of free water when the Arctic melts and plenty of meat when the Polar bears move South migrating to Memphis.

Hmmmm... More big government. Bunch of socialists who want to put constraints on the free market. Let the marketplace rule! If the restaurant owner doesn't want to give something away, he shouldn't have to. Customers should pay for their water out of their own hard-earned money and not mooch upon the hard-working, over-taxed and over-regulated restaurant owner. And, if the customer doesn't like it, let them take their money to someone else. More of the nanny-state intruding into private enterprise.
