Hi,

They test the air raid sirens here in the Netherlands every month. The first Monday at 12.00 for two minutes.

There is a siren next to my boat and there few videos of this, so I put one up on YouTube for those interested!

Supposedly it's for disasters: floods, chemical spills, etc, but it's fairly evident they're expecting the Germans again.

Uncle Beer,

Yes, but from what I have heard, they did not go off during the chemical spill/fire over NewYears this year... Thankfully I was away for a few days. The scientists say that even though it was all cancerous/hazardous chemicals that burned for days, we should all be fine...

Well, they did find a bomb from the WW2 attack on Rotterdam at the Centraal Station last November. That shut things down for a while. But I don't stay up at night worrying about that!

Old joke in NL: "We don't hate the Germans; it's just that every time they come over, they stay for five years".

Around here, they sound the sirens any time a weather alert is issued. Could be flash flood or tornado. it would be nice to know which!
