1) Never have met so many wonderful and talented people both on the internet and in person.
2) NEVER have learned as much as I now know about tubas in general.
3) Never have been exposed to as much wonderful music as I have been.

I could easily go on, but everything I have gained is derived from the three examples I have listed above. TubeNet for me has been a VERY valuable resource.
Though my background is pretty dis-similar to Wayne's, my experience on TubeNet has been pretty much the same.
Translation: I agree with Schlep.

TubeNet is just fine, and it's as good (and as bad) as it's ever been. It's a place to shoot the breeze, buy/sell stuff, and learn a little bit. And you can argue and stuff if you want, too. It's not a place to take too seriously, and it's not a replacement for real social interactions or *gasp* practicing your dang tuba. But it's a good stop-gap when I'm at work or it's too late to play.

Every few years, there's a post like this that comes up. No, there's not a lot of new stuff to talk about all the time. Yes, the long-timers cringe when they hear BBb vs. CC. And yes, there are always new young players who join the board, and legitimately have good questions like that. And for the most part, the old-timers are very helpful and friendly to the newcomers, and that's great (though not totally interesting when you have already said it like 20 times). I think that's maybe one reason why folks like Rick Denny (who used to post like mad) only occasionally reply to things now.

Anyway, things are fine here. I've made some friends through here, bought/sold a lot of great stuff that I'd never have bought new (nor would I have had any idea how to re-sell it), and have improved as a player from things I've learned here.

And like Brian said, I feel unsettled if I go too long without checking in!

I've been a sponsor here for many years. Not necessarily because I make brass repair my business but more because I REALLY like TubeNet and want to try to do my part to help keep it going.

Sure.... many of the same old questions pop up at regular intervals when new members join The Board. It's nice that some of the 'geezers' are tolerant enough to help the 'newbies' along.

There is a lot to be learned here. And... a lot to be ignored. Learning the difference is the important part.

I have learnt a great deal about tubas through TubeNet and probably more important have made a LOT of friends (more than a dozen TubeNeters I have met in person). As Elephant says, I come here as much for the people as the discussions, because after several years, most I have heard before, but then a real gem of new information comes out.

I am sorry that some people seem to have a different attitude to me now I am a Sponsor (heaven forbid, selling Chinese tubas!!! ) - but I am still the same person loving music, tubas, and liking to share my experiences and views
:tuba:

What happened in 2007 that was so important?

I wish I'd learned to use the internet way back then. Then I might have already known.

It was such a long time ago that it only lives in the memories of those who were there to see it. Generations pass and the tale is told and re-told. By the time our great-grandchildren hear it, who knows how different it will be from the facts? There are two distinctly different memories: the happening and the emotional.

*sigh*... It really is more than just a knock-knock joke, you know.

In the beginning, a great turtle descended from the sky. Upon the turtle's back was a sousaphone...

I have a feeling this is going to be another loooong thread sort of like the 'update' one.

I for one am so thankful for tubenet. It helps to fill the void as I sit here at my computer day after day waiting for some client, mortgage broker, auto dealership or home office clerk to return an eamail or fax so I can finally do something productive.
