I teach high school music in a decently sized classroom; primarily music history with a room that will hold about 20 people. In New York that is decently sized! I have been playing music for my classes from either the computer running through a receiver into speakers or a bose docking system for an ipod. The receiver and speakers gave up the ghost after many years of use, and the bose docking system is not quite big enough for this room. Does anybody have any experience with good stand alone speakers for a computer? The options seem to go from $10.99 to about $500 bucks!

If my present set of 8+ year old set of Klipsch computer speakers died tomorrow, I'd order these in a heartbeat.

I also have a Klipsch ipod speaker thingy. It sounds phenomenal.

Wish I could offer some advice, but I own a rather large PA system that I used as my stereo in my classroom so I just plugged the computer (and everything else) into that. All else pales in comparison to 5000 watts with dual 15" with 2"horns and a pair of dual 18" subwoofers when jamming out to some Eric Whitacre

Just do the marching band thing and have a metronome on the "icepick" tone hooked up to it the whole time, with the volume on 10.

Thanks for the suggestions! I am liking the logitech Z906; just trying to imagine hanging speakers around the room. I will look in the the klipsch today. Marty, it isn't loud enough unless you can turn it up to 11!

Sadly, I can say I did this on a couple of occasions. Usually only when we were working on actually timing exercises or when the students were working on the drumline cadences (a whole class project as there were only 9 of them to begin with). I tried not to do it very often though.

Logitech Z906: Staggering! wound up being about $350. plugs into a computer with a headphone jack, and the sound is amazing. It has a subwoofer speaker that sits on the floor, and 5 very small sattelite speakers. the sound is awesome, and I greatly appreciate all of your contributions!
