Interesting article but not the angle I was expecting. Who owns the DEBT has always been fairly obvious to me. As Pogo once put it "We has met da enemy... and it is us".

Who owns the Country is another matter. China and Japan are probably right up there in terms of who owns American property and manufacturing. But... at one time it was the Dutch. Has that changed in recent years.

Just going by that chart, 49% of the debt is owed to ourselves.

Why not just nationalize all the foreign debt----------------Cuba and Venzuela nationalized all American property and didn't pay us a dime------------------Europe hasn't paid us a dime for "Marshall Plan"-------Don't expect Iraq or the Afghans to pay us one red cent.-----------------------guess we're just nice guys .

I am curious to know why do you think Iraq and Afghanistan owes us anything? Its not like they invited us over (please look up the term INVASION)

They will expect free military aid, presence, and training for the next hundred years---------Hm now, How much have we spent on S Korea since 1953????? I got to spend some of that Korean benevolence during my year"s vacation over there----------All that free wine I drank in the officers club at Christmas 1965 is still probably part of our national debt! Point is , the money always seems to flow out of this country in every way, shape and form and nothing comes in!! and our debt keeps rising. Won"t comment on invasion issue cause that is political to some folks but I do know we didn"t raise taxes for the visit over there and thats part of Nat debt. That"s a fact.
