Spammish email (read on) from ensembles you contact

Post by Bob Kolada »

Since moving here I haven't really played that much and wanted to change that. So a few years ago I looked online for the local music groups that I thought I could reasonably play a role in and sent out very polite individual emails asking if they were interested in a low brass sub. For the most part I received no or somewhat snarky replies. One ensemble rehearses somewhat regularly a block from my house. Nice email sent out, rather standoffish reply (not the kind of group that would be bombarded with requests), nothing came of it. Oh well.

I did, however, start to receive regular emails about their performances since they now had my email. I had unsubscribed in the past but was still receiving their notifications of performances. Beyond the obvious "why would you want to play for a group you wouldn't otherwise see?" bit  it started to become a bit tiresome especially as I had only contacted them the once.

So! I decided to very carefully once more unsubscribe from their email list and in the reason why box offered the following tidbit (quoted exactly except for the special part)-
"Wouldn't accept an honest request to audition for a SUB (musician) spot, yet bombard me with emails even after I unsubscribed. Go ---- yourself?"

:D

How have you dealt with what is essentially spam from musical organizations (who have no interest in using you, as is their choice; but latch onto your email address as a possible moneybag)?

Can't you just flag their messages as spam, and never even see them?

Ah, but then I'd still have to empty my spam folder every now and then (dislike having emails there and in the trash folders) and this was much more entertaining. :D

Bob, I would have responded in pretty much the same way
Bloke's idea is pretty good too.
